Job Description:

The Georgia Public Defender Council (GPDC) is seeking to hire a Specialized Division Director Attorney 4. Applicants must meet the qualifications and possess the leadership, legal expertise, and management skills necessary to perform the position's essential duties and responsibilities. The Director is responsible for managing statewide legal operations, supervising attorneys and professional staff, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and professional standards, and advancing the mission of providing high-quality, constitutionally effective indigent defense services throughout Georgia. This position requires the exercise of sound legal judgment, leadership, and administrative decision-making.

Description of Duties: The Specialized Division Director Attorney 4 directs the daily operations of a specialized statewide legal division, providing leadership, supervision, and guidance to attorneys, investigators, and support staff. The Director monitors performance and compliance with state and federal laws and ensures delivery of high-quality legal representation and support services. Responsibilities include collaborating with judicial partners, state agencies, conducting legal research and analysis, and other official proceedings as appropriate. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity AND Three years of relevant legal -experience OR Three years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 3 (LEP022)
