Job Description:

The experience is designed to expose pharmacy students to roles and responsibilities that may not involve direct patient care and to broaden their understanding of the range of professional opportunities available to pharmacists. Within the public health setting, students may participate in activities related to population health, medication safety, health promotion and disease prevention, evidence-based information, interprofessional collaboration, pharmacy operations, and other site-specific public health activities. Because indirect patient care rotations vary by practice setting, additional objectives and activities may be determined by the preceptor, provided the course learning objectives are met.

The internship emphasizes the development of clinical exposure, public health understanding, and health care systems-informed-decision-making, preparing the intern for future roles in population healthcare and leadership. The intern will gain hands-on exposure to how pharmacy services support patient care, disease prevention, and health system operations.  Additionally, the experience includes structured engagement with state, district, and county health operations to understand how public health initiatives are coordinated, researched, and implemented across systems supporting both clinical and research career trajectories.

Minimum qualification:

Must be enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program at school or college of pharmacy .

Hours per week & duration: 10 - 20 hours per week for up to 10 weeks

Additional Information:

The DPH Commissioner and agency leaders encourage all employees to engage in regular wellness activities and to make lifestyle choices that promote health and well-being. 

The use of physical activity breaks during the workday is authorized to support this philosophy and help employees meet their wellness goals. A maximum of 30 minutes of physical activity may be allocated per workday, typically in the form of two 15-minute breaks or one 30-minute break.
