Job Description:

Please note: This position is required to travel by car throughout the state at least 50% of the time to deliver presentations and counsel members regarding TRS benefit options.

Under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment within the limits of established procedures, this position provides comprehensive assistance and customer service to TRS members regarding all TRS benefits programs, via telephone, face-to-face meetings, and large group presentations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree from an 4 year accredited college or university. 
  • Five (5) years of full-time experience in benefits, banking, accounting, claims processing, or finance position involving interpreting, applying, and communicating complex laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Experience conducting detailed presentations to small, medium and large sized groups of adults. 
  • Experience conducting in-person interviews or counseling sessions, or in providing in-person customer service.
  • Ability to drive weekly throughout the state of GA by car, resulting in hotel stays as appropriate.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime, weekends, or extended hours needed to accommodate customers.

Preferred Additional qualifications

  • Excel at public speaking, as well as one-on-one conversations. Ability to instill confidence and quickly establish a rapport with people.
  • Previous retirement planning and/or benefits counseling, finance, banking or customer service experience preferred.
     

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES   

  • Travel at least 50% of the time within the state by car to present to and counsel members on TRS benefit options.
  • Conduct individual new hire, mid-career, and pre-retirement workshops and seminars, as well as one-on-one counseling sessions with TRS customers. Provide general information about TRS benefits and individual member account information.
  • Project estimates of monthly benefits, calculate and provide cost for members to purchase additional eligible service credit using our pension administration system. This includes researching member accounts and preparing costing and benefit estimates to determine salary history.
  • Work with assigned employers throughout the State, to include: scheduling, organizing and marketing events; and assisting in training employers on all TRS policies and procedures; and other duties as needed.
  • Attend benefit fairs and conferences. Research and respond to inquiries from members and employers regarding TRS laws and policies, required documentation, and other matters regarding member accounts.
  • Responsible for making own travel arrangements and taking all necessary materials on trips.
  • Assist with educating new hires in various divisions about the outreach program and the retirement planner role.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
