We are currently seeking Substance Abuse (SA) Coordinator to join our team in making a difference in the lives of our patients every day.  We are located in the heart of Middle Georgia State where we enjoy abundant recreational opportunities, and a family friendly environment with good schools and opportunities for the entire family to be involved.

Summary of Duties

The Substance Abuse Coordinator is the full performance level of work in a single person program, assessing, designing, coordinating and implementing alcohol and drug abuse prevention programs.  Employees in this classification will have supervision of other positions.

Responsibilities

·         Monitors data collection to identify the problem areas specific to the program in order to develop, addictions prevention plans and increase community awareness.

·         Develops, coordinates and implements prevention educational programs and alternative activities to decrease and prevent drug and alcohol involvement and related risk behavior.

·         Maintains and distributes alcohol and drug abuse prevention educational materials.

·         Assists community groups, other agencies and organizations in developing, organizing and conducting programs to prevent and resolve conditions and problems related to alcohol and drug abuse.

·         Plans, organizes and conducts training for staff of and local agencies, schools, local businesses, industries and community groups involved in alcohol and drug abuse programs.

·         Prepares and maintains reports, records and documents pertaining to funding sources, program evaluation and reference information on chemical dependency.

·         Develops and implements the alcohol and drug abuse prevention policies and procedures.

·         Evaluates the alcohol and drug abuse prevention program activities of the local health department to determine effectiveness and efficiency.

·         Confers with the local health officers and program directors to recommend remedial or corrective actions to prevent alcohol and drug abuse problems.

·         Develops and maintains a wide variety of alcohol and drug abuse educational services for use by program directors.

·         Manages and directs the clinical activities of a comprehensive behavioral health program.

·         Performs psychosocial assessments, treatment planning/monitoring and discharge planning.

·         Provides counseling/therapy to clients requiring complex intervention.

·         Performs commitment determinations and/or execute orders of involuntary commitments.

·         Supervises and plans work of assigned staff.

·         Acts as client advocate in order to coordinate required services or to resolve crisis.

·         Counsels’ clients in individual and group sessions to help them overcome dependencies, recover from illness, and adjust to life.

·         Identify environmental impediments to client of patient progress through interviews and review of patient records.

·         May administer and coordinate services and activities of a specialized program.

·         Monitors, evaluates, and records client progress according to measurable goals described in treatment and care plan.

·         Organizes support groups or counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting the client.

·         Performs clinical assessments of the behavioral health needs of consumers presenting for services.

·         Provides case management services related to identified treatment needs.

·         Provides training to direct care staff in implementing behavior modification techniques and treatment plans. Refers client or family to community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness and to provide access to services such as financial assistance, legal aid, housing, job placement or education.

·         Designs behavioral or therapeutic interventions for intractable or difficult to manage clients.

·         Determines the necessity for commitment in accordance with accepted standards of clinical practice.

·         Conducts psychosocial assessments/evaluations to develop comprehensive case/service plans

·         Participate as part of the Statewide Substance Abuse Unit to assist in shaping policy and providing best practice guidelines to the field. Participate in statewide trainings and interagency efforts as needed.

·         Work with community-based substance abuse providers to establish working relationships between the provider and the local DCF Area Office. This includes improving communication with the provider, developing protocols to improve access to services for DCF clients and to streamline service provision.

·         Provide cross training as necessary to local substance abuse providers.

·         Participate in Regional\Area interagency or community-based substance abuse or child welfare meetings.

Knowledge:

·         Working knowledge of the effects of drug and alcohol abuse and substance abuse treatment programs and prevention methods and techniques;

·         Working knowledge of the principles and practices of community organization to enhance awareness and responsiveness to substance abuse prevention;

·         Working knowledge of the basic community resources and organizations;

·         Working knowledge of program development and evaluation;

·         Working knowledge of education methods and materials including teaching methods and curricula design.

·         Working knowledge of communication skills and techniques;

·         Some knowledge of the principles of contract administration and management;

·         Some knowledge of public health program policy planning;

·         Some knowledge of the principles and practices of staff supervision and training.

Ability to:

·         Evaluate needs and design and implement substance abuse prevention forums and programs;

·         Plan, coordinate, facilitate and present substance abuse prevention programs;

·         Act as a consultant and technical expert in substance abuse prevention matters;

·         Plan, assign, direct and evaluate the work of subordinate staff;

·         Prepare and present oral and written materials convincingly, clearly and logically;

·         Evaluate curricula and other educational materials related to substance abuse prevention;

·         Negotiate and monitor consultant and trainer contracts;

·         Analyze and prepare grant proposals, contracts and related budgets;

·         Operate audiovisual equipment;

·         Learn to input, access and analyze data utilizing a computer terminal

Pre-employment Requirements:

  • Previous experience in mental/behavioral health field.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
  • Submit to and pass a pre-employment:
    • Drug screen
    • DBHDD Background check
    • Local Criminal Background Check
    • No more than four (4) points on a seven (7) year Motor Vehicle Report ?
      *If more than (4) points an approved DDS course to reduce points must be taken.

 

Qualifications

·         Licensure in the area of assignment And Three years of experience in the provision of therapeutic services with at least one year in a supervisory role

·         OR Masters degree from an accredited program and Three years experience at the lower level or position equivalent (HCP052)

·         Extensive knowledge in Substance Use Disorders and the substance abuse treatment

·         Experience with the child welfare system.

·         Experience with community development and cross-systems collaboration.

·         A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in human services, social work, or a related field.

·         Licensed professionals are encouraged to apply, particularly Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors.

·         Experience in Behavioral Health

·         CPR/First Aid Certification must be acquired and maintained once employed

·         Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered

·         Certificates ,Licenses, Registrations: Must be CPS-AD or CARES eligible

·         Ability to travel a minimum of 10% of the time. (Local Travel)

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in Social services or related field plus Two years related work experience AND experience working with individuals who are currently homeless and individuals with a Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) and/or Substance Abuse Diagnosis

·         Case Management experience

·         Good communication abilities, understands a sense of urgency and cable of working in a fast –paced environment

·         Ability to develop, implement and facilitate workshops

·         Ability to assess what training is needed.

·         Must be a self-started and work independently;

·         Must be highly organized and efficient;

·         Computer skills required (internet, word processing and spreadsheet programs);

·         Must be able to perform assignments with minimal supervision;

·         Must be able to comprehend and perform oral and written instructions and procedures;

·         Must be capable of adapting to varying workloads and work assignments on a constant basis;

·         Must have effective comprehensive reading skills, strong communication skills, written and verbal.

Master's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND licensure in the area of assignment AND Two years of related post-license experience OR Master's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university AND licensure in the area of assignment AND Two years of experience at the lower level Social Worker, Licensed 2 (HCP051) or position equivalent.
