POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Systems Technician II is a mid-level, multi-disciplinary role within a small, highly collaborative government IT team. This individual serves as the operational backbone of the team — owning end-user computing, network support, asset management, and IT service operations. The ideal candidate is dependable, technically capable, and comfortable working closely alongside cloud and security peers in a lean environment where everyone contributes beyond their primary lane.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create, manage, and maintain deployment profiles, enrollment configurations, and compliance policies in Microsoft Autopilot, Intune, and Apple Business Manager; ensure devices are properly configured for secure, consistent deployment across the environment
  • Provide Tier 2/3 escalation support for complex hardware, software, and connectivity issues; serve as primary contact for specialized business application support; document findings and drive resolution to closure
  • Participate in quarterly server patching cycles and maintenance windows; support backup and restore operations; assist with Windows Server administration tasks
  • Assist with Azure infrastructure administration including Virtual Machines, storage accounts, and networking components; support advanced Microsoft 365 administration across Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and OneDrive; assist with Azure AD user and device management, Conditional Access policy reviews, and license assignments under senior guidance
  • Assist on infrastructure projects, migrations, and rollouts; support disaster recovery documentation and testing; help maintain network diagrams and runbooks
  • Coordinate vendor escalations for hardware and software as needed (Microsoft, Cisco, or any other related 3rd-Party Vendor)
  • Provide backup support to teammates during absences, high-volume periods, or major projects
  • Communicates technical concepts clearly to non-technical staff and stakeholders; dependable and professional — a small team relies on consistent coverage and ownership
  • Perform other duties and special projects assigned by IT leadership

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field — OR — equivalent work/military experience
  • 1–3 years of hands-on IT experience in a professional environment
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), Windows Server, and Microsoft 365
  • Experience with Azure AD, Microsoft Intune, and Autopilot
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications (MD-102, AZ-900) preferred
  • Prior experience in a government or regulated environment a plus
  • Self-directed, adaptable, and comfortable shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to lift and move IT equipment (up to 50 lbs)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • On-site position; occasional travel to satellite locations may be required
  • Member of a small, tightly collaborative IT team — flexibility and willingness to assist across functions is essential
  • Must be comfortable taking ownership of tasks without constant direction
  • Subject to background check and government security screening

  • This position exempt, knowing it may include hours which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week
  • Occasional travel required including air and car travel
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential
