At the State of Georgia, we believe in supporting not just our employees—but also the students and schools that shape our future. That’s why full-time, non-temporary employees of state agencies are eligible for Education Support Leave—a benefit that provides up to eight hours of paid leave per calendar year to participate in educational activities.

This unique benefit is designed to promote education across Georgia by giving employees the flexibility and encouragement to take part in education-related events. Whether you're a parent, guardian, or simply passionate about education, this time off allows you to be present where it matters most: in support of student success.

Eligible Activities Include:

  • Attending parent-teacher conferences
  • Volunteering or participating in the classroom to perform activities such as reading in the classroom, presenting on career day, etc.
  • Tutoring or mentoring students without receiving compensation
  • Proctoring exams
  • Participating in school events like field trips, field days, or award ceremonies
  • Attending open house functions

You may use this leave to support students in public, private, or home school environments.

Important Guidelines:

  • You receive up to 8 hours of paid leave per calendar year.
  • Unused time does not roll over into the next year.
  • The leave has no cash value and is not paid out upon termination of employment.

By making it easier to participate in educational activities, this benefit reinforces the state's commitment to strengthening communities and investing in our future generations. It's one more way we’re making sure public service in Georgia is meaningful—not just on the job, but beyond it.

We encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity to give back. Whether you're helping out in your child’s classroom or volunteering in your local school district, your time and involvement can make a lasting impact.
