Summary/Objective: 

Under the general supervision of a Police Sergeant, performs a wide variety of patrol duties at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Campus involving the prevention of crime, the protection of life and property, and the enforcement of laws and ordinances; makes investigations, assists in the preparation of cases and testifies in court as required; serves in specialized departmental roles as assigned; provides information and assistance to the public; performs related work as assigned.

 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Patrols the RWS campus within an assigned area in a radio dispatched automobile to secure life and property, observe situations, report suspicious or criminal activity, hazardous conditions, and deter crime by providing high visibility.
  • Responds to emergency calls for service, disturbances, thefts, burglaries, vehicle accidents, domestic disputes, suspicious activities, and other incidents to protect public safety and property, resolve problems, diffuse situations and enforce laws and ordinances.
  • Provides information, directions, and assistance to the public in a variety of situations; takes reports and assists with complaints or unusual situations.
  • Responds to fires, natural disasters, or other hazardous events.
  • Observes, monitors and controls routine and unusual traffic situations; provides direction and traffic control in accident or incident situations, special events or other congested situations.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with the community;
  • Makes arrests as necessary; takes individuals into custody and may transport them for medical clearance and/or booking at a longer-term facility, as required.
  • Secures crime scenes and evidence; interviews suspects, victims and witnesses; collects and preserves evidence; performs complete investigations and/or cooperates with other law enforcement agencies providing investigative and case development support.
  • Provides mutual aide to other local law enforcement agencies as dispatched and in accordance with departmental policy.
  • Prepares reports; prepares and maintains logs, records and accurate files.
  • Conducts fire drills and fire extinguisher inspections as assigned.

Work Environment:

This job operates on the RWS/CSC Campus. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and smartphones.

 

Physical Demands:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a law enforcement setting and an office setting; restrain or subdue individuals; walk, stand, sit, or run for prolonged periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance; regularly push, pull, lift, and/or carry light to moderate weights(10-15 pounds); frequently lift and/or move moderate to heavy weights (20-45 pounds); occasionally lift and/or move heavy weights (50 pounds); operate office equipment including use of computer keyboard; requires a sense of touch, finger dexterity, and gripping with hands and fingers; ability to speak and hear to exchange information; ability to operate a vehicle to travel to various locations; ability to operate and use specialized law enforcement tools and equipment including guns and handcuffs. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

 

Working Conditions:

Incumbents working in this job perform duties in an office setting. This is a 40-hour workweek requirement. The position may involve managing a high-volume workload and demands a high level of accuracy while working with deadlines. Regular attendance is an important part of being successful in this position. Reasonable accommodations can be made available to qualified individuals upon request.

 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. This position requires working in various shifts, including evenings and weekends. This position may occasionally require longer hours and weekend work.

 

Travel:

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, and or Access.
  • Skills in investigating of criminal cases and presentment to Court Systems.

As a condition of employment with Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, you must successfully complete a mandatory federal and national background check, pre-employment testing, and additional checks required for your job.

High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience as a law enforcement officer or a security officer AND P.O.S.T. certification.
