Position Description:

 

Job Description: The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) is seeking four (4) Outreach Coordinators to join our Georgia Rental Assistance (GRA) Program team and provide marketing and outreach services in four (4) locations:  Athens-Clarke County/North GA, Columbus-Muscogee County, Macon-Bibb County and Albany. This position will provide an opportunity to assist in the swift and precise statewide dissemination of valuable information regarding the $552 million in rental assistance from the Federal Emergency Rental Assistance Program. The funds will be used to help individuals, families, and landlords with rental and utility payment assistance who have gotten behind due to or during the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding assistance will be distributed directly to landlords, tenants and utility companies on behalf of the tenants (renters). This position will report to the GRA Outreach Manager and will work alongside the GRA Program teams, marketing assistants and in coordination with the DCA Marketing and Communications staff.

 

The employee will work up to 40 hours/week with occasional evening/overnight events. Orientation will take place at the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, Central Office, 60 Executive Park South, NE, Atlanta, GA 30329, however, the employee will work within one of the following service areas:  Athens-Clarke County/North Georgia, Columbus-Muscogee County, Albany or Macon/Bibb County.  Masks and COVID-19 protocols are encouraged.  Duties will require in-office presence and off-site travel.

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

 

  • Undertaking daily administrative tasks to ensure the functionality and coordination of GRA program outreach activities
  • Facilitating outreach meetings & event coordination
  • Performing outreach and marketing research
  • Supporting GRA program staff to organize various projects
  • Designing DCA-branded outreach materials such as brochures, graphics, flyers, videos, and logos
  • Staffing outreach requests from local governments, partner agencies and other community-based organizations
  • Developing outreach material for projects such as emails, press releases, and blogs
  • Composing and posting online outreach-related content on DCA’s website and social media accounts
  • Attending regularly scheduled staff meetings
  • Performing other duties as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

 

  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Acrobat) is highly desired
  • Ability to provide direction and technical assistance to local communities on DCA's housing programs, services and activities
  • Ability to identify local opportunities, resources and needs that can be met by the programs and services available at DCA
  • Ability to work autonomously and efficiently while being a good steward of the state's resources

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public relations and/or a business curriculum or related field from an accredited college or university OR Associate's degree in communications, marketing, public relations and/or a business curriculum or related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience performing communications, marketing, public relations and/or business-related functions OR High School diploma or GED AND Four years of experience OR One year of experience required at the lower level Program Specialist 2 (GSP091) or position equivalent.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

Preference will be given to applicants who in addition to meeting the agency specific minimum qualifications possess at least one of the following:

 

  • Knowledge of local government operations
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills
  • Knowledge and experience with Office software products

Working Conditions (travel, hours, environment)

This position is salaried, including hours which exceed eight hours in a day or forty hours in a week.

 

Physical/Sensory Requirements

Sedentary Work – Ability to exert 10 - 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND One year of related experience OR completion of an apprenticeship/internship that sufficiently supplied experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position OR any other combination of education and professional experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the job.
