The Georgia Department of Corrections is the largest law enforcement agency in Georgia with approximately 9,000 employees, and is one of the largest prison systems in the United States. The GDC is responsible for oversight of approximately 45,000 state-sentenced offenders within more than 80 facilities across the state. Our non-negotiable mission of public safety is accomplished by maintaining safe and secure facilities and providing basic care, while working to reduce recidivism by providing vocational and educational programming opportunities to offenders.

View Point Health

View Point Health is a community behavioral health center utilizing a team of psychiatrists, nurses, licensed counselors and social workers, and other professionals to provide services to individuals who need treatment and support to cope with mental illness, substance abuse, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. View Point Health serves uninsured, underinsured, low-income Medicaid, Medicare, war veterans and some private insurance across multiple locations with a full continuum of behavioral health services and support. The services provided by View Point Health contribute to the reduction in homelessness, reduction in crime and subsequent incarcerations, higher graduation rates, lower dropout rates, decreased ER visits and decreased inpatient admissions.

Peer Recovery Coach will work collaboratively with individuals served, co-workers and the community to promote long-term recovery goals that empower individuals to overcome challenges regarding their substance use and create and meet their own recovery goals.  We provide person-centered care and assist with implementing our unit programming based on evidenced-based practices for substance use detox, brief treatment, and early recovery support.  The position requires flexibility in job tasks and scheduling to accommodate needs of the facility to include some weekend and evening coverage.  This facility requires alternating holiday coverage between all staff.

Under direct supervision, assists with daily living activities at the person's home, in a daytime non-residential facility or a residential facility. Provides training of basic personal and social skills, simple academics, or work skills to consumers/students in a state school, hospital, juvenile detention facility, residence, group home, workshop, or supported employment environment.
