Duties & Responsibilities: The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Technologist for the Newborn Screening Unit of the Public Health Central Laboratory located in Decatur, Georgia.
Under general supervision, serves as clinical specialist in the Newborn Screening Unit of the Georgia Public Health Laboratory. Performs a wide range of laboratory tests defined as high complexity by the 1988 Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) in order to obtain date for use in medical diagnosis and treatment. Analyzes specimens, interprets and records testing results, and reports findings to designated personnel. May act as a resource or lead technologist. .
Employees may be required to regularly work on weekends and/or holidays as deemed necessary by the Georgia Public Health Laboratory.
Minimum Training & Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related science field AND Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory and Certification as a medical technologist, MT (ASCP), or equivalent certification that meets the personnel qualification requirements pertaining to "technologists" specified in the Department of Human Resources rules for licensure of clinical laboratories.
Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences, allied health science, or laboratory management
•One year of experience in performing molecular biology techniques such as extraction of DNA from clinical specimens and polymerase-chain reactions (PCR).
•One year of experience in mass spectrometry.
•Must have a good understanding of laboratory quality assurance and quality control practices.
