Duties & Responsibilities: This position is part of a team which provides Assertive Community Treatment to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, who have been discharged from multiple or extended stays in public hospitals, jails or who have been otherwise difficult to engage in treatment on an outpatient basis. The Peer Specialist assigned to the ACT Team promotes consumer self-determination and decision-making and provides essential expertise and consultation to the entire team to promote a culture in which each clients point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation and community self help activities. Duties include:
Sharing personal experiences as a peer and recipient of mental health/addictive disease services to benefit the clients and team members
Participates in daily team meetings
Provides first hand experience about the recovery process, symptom management and the persistence required by the clients to have a satisfying life.
Assist clients with rehabilitation activities
Provides peer counseling, consultation and support
Acts as liaison with community services
Provides case management services
Acts as a consumer advocate
Minimum Training & Experience: High school diploma or GED and two years experience in a social services related position Or Bachelor's degree in a social services related field Or One year at the lower level or position equivalent
Agency Specific Qualifications and/or Preferred Qualifications: Certification as a Peer Specialist. Must have a valid GA Drivers License.
Previous Experience providing ACT services or Community Residential services to SPMI population.
Additional Information: A pre-employment drug test and criminal background check is required upon hire.
